I founded Vagary Enterprises in 2010 to help small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) integrate new media platforms into their communication ecosystem. Over the years, the business has grown and contracted. At times, I've taken positions with other, much larger organizations, but I've always kept Vagary in the background, on a smaller scale.
What I've learned over the years is that there is still a need for Vagary services. New media platforms continue to launch and grow. Others transform. Some die out. Keeping abreast of the media industry is tough when your business isn't focused on media. Not every platform or channel is appropriate for every business. Each needs to be selected based on its utility and ability to interact with your target audience. And this is where Vagary considers your business model the most.
As the founder of Vagary, I champion entrepreneurialism and ethical business practices. I get excited about leveraging new media platforms for untested concepts, products, or services.
Since the 1990s, the Internet has transformed all aspects of society: business, culture, education, politics, spirituality, philosophy, and more. In many ways, the book about how the Internet modified society has yet to be written. While more and more studies are being published by philosophers, sociologists, neuroscientists, psychologists, and others about some of the Internet's social effects, a comprehensive, cross-discipline study may never be realized.
As an active member of the community, I understand the Internet's potential to impact society in both positive and negative ways. For this reason, I do not use Vagary to promote businesses or non-profit causes that I feel have blurred ethical practices.
Ultimately, I will only use Vagary to benevolently impact the Internet and society. bI realize this is a personal, subjective call, but I feel that my family, military background, education, and professional experience are positive influences that help me navigate these decisions. I look forward to hearing about your business needs.

Media Literacy isn't a new concept, but it isn't a mature one either. It's become more of a thing with the rise of the Internet and our media-saturated lives. Still, there's no consensus on what to include in a comprehensive Media Literacy program.
My approach begins with my professional background and my nerdy passion for psychology.
I studied Communication at The University of Texas at Austin, specializing in digital media—advertising and public relations. I am fascinated by new approaches to studying the nature of media influence and its impact on behavior. I love everything related to neuroscience, which is a discipline that is still in its infancy.
My Media Literacy method breaks down all content by the four components of the basic communication model:
1. The Message Creator
2. The Message
3. The Medium
4. The Message Recipient

The Chameleon is a provocative book by design. It's a work of fiction that purposely explores historically problematic areas of social unity and media's role in dividing society.
My original goal was to create an academic book for Media Literacy. However, I kept running into areas that crossed professional disciplines, like neuroscience, philosophy, psychology, sociology, etc. While I know much about media and communication from my career, I didn't feel I was the best person to go about this academically.
The Chameleon offered me a chance to explore Media Literacy's tenets in a creative venue with engaging situations. The result is a compelling storyline where flawed characters drive the action while readers are subtly exposed to Media Literacy concepts.
The potentially problematic areas of The Chameleon deal with the taboo topics of racism, religion, politics, and media manipulation—all the areas we have trouble agreeing on as a society. I use realistic dialogue in these parts of the book, often taken from my own experiences, to advance the story. Unfortunately, some character exchanges contain offensive language that isn't suitable for impressionable readers.
With The Chameleon, I attempted to indirectly show readers the shady practices that media manipulators use to influence their audience. It's social commentary. But, that's not all. The Chameleon is also a dialectic exploration of the origin of our ideas and what is true.
I'm incredibly proud of the finished work, and I hope you find it worthy of your time. Thank you so much for your interest.
